National Open College Network (NOCN Level 2)
Course Overview:
We currently offer three level 2 courses:
- Introduction to Drug Awareness
- Introduction To Alcohol Awareness for the Individual
- Introduction to Mentoring
All three courses are aimed particularly at:
- Community groups/volunteers
- individuals interested in working within the drug and alcohol field
Course Aims
- Have knowledge of legal and illegal drugs
- Show an awareness of the effects of drugs and alcohol
- Understand the Law relating to drugs
- Understand own and other people's attitude to drug and alcohol use/misuse
- Understand the concept of harm and harm minimisation
- Gain an awareness of the health issues associated with drug/alcohol misuse
- Develop more effective communication skills
- Participate in group discussions
- Identify sources of help and information
- Demonstrate an understanding of what is meant by mentoring
- Demonstrate a familiarity with the knowledge, attributes and skills required for successful mentoring
- Recognise own development needs
- Demonstrate a familiarity with effective record keeping in mentoring
- Demonstrate a knowledge of the diversity aspects of mentoring
