INTRODUCTION
The
Crime & Disorder Act 1998, as amended by
the Police Reform Act 2002, requires responsible
authorities to undertake an audit every three
years and then implement a strategy to reduce
crime and disorder and combat the misuse of
drugs in every district council or unitary authority
area. Originally, the responsible authorities
consisted of the police service, district councils
and county councils but have now been extended
to include police authorities, fire authorities
and primary care trusts. The Act led to the
creation of 376 Crime & Disorder Reduction
Partnerships (CDRPs) in England and Wales. There
are 7 such CDRPs in the Nottinghamshire county
area (Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Gedling,
Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood; and Rushcliffe).
Nottinghamshire County DAAT has a place on each
of these CDRP's at both strategic and tactical
levels. Each CDRP ensures that their work is
informed and involves key organisations from
the public, private, community and voluntary
sectors to undertake this statutory duty right
across their respective Boroughs/District -
this includes key service providers working
in the drug and alcohol field i.e. Hettys; WAM;
Livin IT; Let's Build etc.
Each
of the CDRPs produced their third Crime and
Disorder and Drugs Strategy in 2004/05, which
went live on 1st April 2005 running through
to 31st March 2008. These strategies set out
what these partnerships aim to achieve over
the next three years and identifies the priorities
and targets that will help to achieve the partnership’s
vision.
