Details - Basic Alcohol Awareness
Course Overview:
This course is designed to raise participants
understanding of alcohol on the individual
and wider society, examining their own attitudes
to alcohol use and exploring some of the mythology
that exists around drink. We will discuss the
scale of the problems associated with this issue
as well as identifying assessment tools, treatment
options and services available locally.
Course Aims - Participants will:
Understand the scale of alcohol related problems
Develop skills to assess alcohol related problems
Learn how to use Brief Interventions to reduce
alcohol related harm
Gain knowledge of treatment services
Develop confidence in working with alcohol
users
Work to support the National Harm Reduction
Strategy
This course supports the knowledge and understanding
of the following DANOS units.
AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse
and refer individuals to specialists
AB2 Support individuals who are substance users
AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger
to substance users
AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their
use and effects
AC1 Develop your own knowledge and practice
