Training Course
Details - Basic Drug Awareness
Course Overview:
Recommended as a first course for anyone wishing
to gain knowledge in this field.
This course has been designed to develop awareness
and understanding of substance
use and misuse issues, the indicators and consequences
of drug use and develop
confidence of participants to engage with clients
appropriately.
Course Aims - Participants will:
Be able to identify and recognise licit and
illicit drugs and paraphernalia
Gain an understanding of how beliefs and attitudes
might affect the perception of
drug use
Be able to identify a range of indicators
and consequences of drug use
Be able to identify services and areas of
support appropriate to people affected by
drugs
This course supports the knowledge and understanding
of the following DANOS units.
AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse
and refer individuals to specialists
AA3 Enable individuals to find out about and
use services and facilities
AB2 Support individuals who are substance users
AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger
to substance users
AC1 Develop your own knowledge and practice
AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their
use and effects
AF1 Carry out screening and referral assessment
