Details - Working With Drug Using Clients
Course Overview:
It is essential that individuals attend a Basic
Drugs Awareness Course before
attending this training
Following on from Basic Drug Awareness Training,
this course has been developed for
people wishing to develop their practice in
relation to working with drug users. Course
participants will develop their confidence around
assessment, appropriate treatment and interventions.
Course Aims - Participants will:
Develop their knowledge and skills in working
with drug using clients
Identify and explore key areas of assessment
in relation to drug using clients
Identify ways of reducing the health risks
associated with problematic drug use
Develop knowledge of different treatment options
available
Gain a basic knowledge of the principles and
skills of motivational interviewing
This course supports the knowledge and understanding
of the following DANOS units.
AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse
and refer individuals to specialists
AA3 Enable individuals to find out about and
use services and facilities
AB2 Support individuals that are substance users
AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger
to substance users
AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their
use and effects
AF1 Carry out screening and referral assessment
AI1 Counsel individuals about their substance
use using recognised theoretical models
AC1 Develop your own knowledge and practice
