Training Course
Details - Intermediate Dual Diagnosis
Course Overview
There is now a common consensus that the term
Dual Diagnosis refers to clients with a
substance misuse problem and severe mental health
problems.
The aim of this intermediate level module is
to examine the concepts of assessment and intervention
with this client group. The days training is
aimed at those people who have completed the
one day Dual Diagnosis course and who work with
people with severe and ongoing mental health
problems who fit this dual diagnosis criteria.
The day will engage participants in developing
their existing skills using current case
examples and recently implemented Department
of Mental Health Policy Implementation Guidance
(MHPIG) to explore best practice integrated
care for Dual Diagnosis clients. By the end
of the day practitioners should be equipped
to answer the question – “How do
I ensure the best possible service for my clients
without them falling between services?”
This course supports the knowledge and understanding
of the following DANOS units.
AF2 Carry out assessment to identify and prioritise
needs
AG1 Plan and agree service responses which meet
individuals identified needs and
circumstances
AG2 Contribute to the prevention and management
of abusive and aggressive
behaviour
AG3 Assist in the transfer of individuals between
agencies and services
