Training Course Details - Introduction to Opiates

Course Aims - Participants will:
 To raise participants awareness of issues, surrounding opiate use
 To gain an understanding of how and why opiates might be used
 To raise participants confidence in working with opiate users
 Develop knowledge of appropriate treatment options for this client group

Learning outcomes:
 Identify some of the myths and realities surrounding opiate use
 Understand the importance of empathic working skills
 Gain an awareness of practical harm reduction appropriate to opiate users
 Know the treatment pathways available

This course supports the knowledge and understanding of the following DANOS units.
AB2 Support individuals that are substance users
AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to substance users
AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects
