Details - Pregnancy & Substance Use
Course Overview
This one-day training is aimed primarily at
practitioners in Social work, Midwifery, Health
Visiting, GU Medicine and Paediatrics. It is
designed for those practitioners who work with
women who use drugs in pregnancy and aims to
address the following areas:
The effect of drug use in pregnancy
Inter-agency working
Child protection issues
Attitudes and values
Services available
The day aims to offer the above in a multi-agency
training forum to build upon the skills
and experiences of those agencies supporting
women and assessing potential risks to
children.
This course supports the knowledge and understanding
of the following DANOS units.
AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse
and refer individuals to specialists
AA2 Establish, sustain and disengage from relationships
with individuals
AA3 Enable individuals to find out about and
use services and facilities
AB2 Support individuals who are substance users
